Parking FAQ
Where can I park on weekends?
There is parking available after 7:00pm on Friday until 4:00am on Mondays in the red faculty/staff surface and green commuter lots only. This does not include the parking garages, reserved spaces, or meters. See the parking map for location of lots.
What should I do if I put money into the meter and it doesn't work?
If the meter doesn't register your money or you pull into a failed meter, call our office 438-8391 right away to notify us. Please be preparred to give us the meter number and your location. We will not ticket you for a period of up to 30 minutes at a thirty minute meter and 60 minutes at all other meters.
What if I live in the residence halls and I want to bring my car back for a week/overnight?
Parking and Transportation offers to students who live in the residence halls, a one day parking permit at a price of $2.75, or a weekly permit for $11.00. These permits will allow the student to park in lots S103, S104 or S105 unitl noon on the day of the permits expiration.
What should I do if my storage lot is full?
If you cannot find a parking space in your designated storage lot, notify the Office of Parking and Transportation at 438-8391 between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm Otherwise, call the ISU Police Department at 438-8631.
What do the different colored lots signify?
- Blue Lots - blue lots are storage lots for residence hall students only. An appropriate valid permit is required to park in these lots. Students with blue permits may leave their car in these lots 24 hours a day.
- Green Lots - green lots are for commuter students living off campus. These lots are closed from 4:00am till 6:00am
- Red Lots - red lots are reserved for faculty and staff only. These lots are closed from 4:00am till 6:00am After 5:00pm vehicles displaying a valid commuter permit (except Park & Ride) can park in a red surface lot or red signed reserved space until 4:00am
Are there any other special lots to know about?
- Motorcycle/Moped - motorcycle/moped is considered any motorized vehicle with no more than three wheels. These vehicles must park in a motorcycle lot and display a valid motorcycle permit..
- Cardinal Court and Shelbourne Apartment residents must have a valid CCT/SHB permit to park a vehicle at the apartment complex. Each resident's vehicle must display a permit. A valid current lease must be presented to Parking and Transportation to purchase this permit. Permits are only issued to individuals named on the lease. If a resident is an ISU student and is going to commute to campus, a green commuter permit must be purchased. Each residence is given a visitor permit. This visitor permit is for short term use only, no more that 3 consecutive days, and is not intended to replace the CCT/SHB permit for permanent residents.
What are my options for parking spaces?
- Metered Spaces - any parking space with a meter in front of it is considered a meter space. Meters are patrolled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and must be paid at all times.
- Pay Lots-located at the Bone Student Center and the first level of the South University Street parking garage.
- Faculty-Staff surface lots-these are restricted to faculty/staff permit holders from 6am to 5pm.
- Commuter lots-these are restricted to commuter permit holders from 6am to 7pm.
- Red Reserved Spaces - these spaces are reserved for the permit holder only from the hours of 6:00am to 5:00pm.
- White Reserved Spaces - these spaces are reserved for the permit holder from 6:00am to 5:00pm.
- F35/F37 (Reserved Zone)- these spaces require a reserved zone permit and are located on the top level of the School Street and South University Street parking garages.
- Business - business spaces are for departmental and off campus vendor use only. Vendors and departments must purchase a permit from Parking and Transportation to use these spaces. These spaces are for short-term use only.
- Health - temporary health permits may be purchased from the Office of Parking and Transportation after Disability Concerns have verified the need for one of these. These temporary permits allow a person to park in any surface faculty/staff lot for 24 hours. Disability Concerns cannot and does not issue handicapped/accessible parking permits.
- Medical - temporary medical permits may be purchased from the Office of Parking and Transportation after Disability Concerns have verified the need for one of these permits. The Office of Parking and Transportation will then make arrangements needed to accommodate the individual's needs. Disability Concerns cannot and does not issue handicapped/accessible parking permits.
Why did I get towed?
Vehicles in violation are subject to immediate tow for $10.00 of unpaid fines, safety violations, reserved spaces, service spaces, loading spaces, business spaces, storage lots, and spaces designated for accessible permits/plates. Vehicles not properly displaying a valid license and/or inoperable will be considered abandoned and subject to immediate tow. Vehicles are subject to tow 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
What happens if I'm in an accident on campus?
All accidents involving a motor vehicle on campus must be reported immediately to the University Police. Any vandalism incurred in campus lots should also be reported to the University Police.
Where can I pay my ticket fines?
Tickets are payable in person at the Office of Parking & Transportation, or by courtesy boxes in various locations on campus, by campus mail, or U.S. mail with proper postage. Do not send cash through campus mail, campus drop boxes or by U.S. mail. Cash payments must be made in person at our office.
